Brothers' top draft pick Cai Yung-chieh hits two hits, reaches base four times

Cai Yung-chieh, the highly touted first-round draft pick of the CTBC Brothers last year, is steadily progressing in his development within the team's minor league system. The versatile player, capable of manning both infield and outfield positions, demonstrated his current strong form by recording two hits and reaching base on four occasions during a recent game against Rakuten.

Cai, who was the Brothers' top selection in last year's draft with a signing bonus of NT$4.9 million, also played for the national team in the U18 World Cup. After a brief stint in the top league at the end of last season, he has spent the current year exclusively in the minor league, honing his skills. In the game against Rakuten, he batted second and played third base, reaching base in four of his first five at-bats, including two hits and two walks. He also contributed a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to extend the Brothers' lead.

His performance has been particularly impressive in August, with Cai batting a scorching .436 over his last 12 games, accumulating 17 hits in 39 at-bats. This sustained offensive output has caught the attention of the coaching staff.

Brothers' manager Ping-Chieh Hirano confirmed that Cai will be included in the team's 60-man roster by the August 31st deadline. This move signals a strong possibility of Cai making his debut in the top league soon, as the team looks to integrate promising young talent.
