Brugada launches legal defense for dispossession victims with 100 lawyers

Mexico City's Head of Government, Clara Brugada, has launched the "Ponciano Arriaga" Social Defense Office, a new initiative aimed at combating property dispossession. The office, inaugurated in the Zócalo, will be staffed by 100 lawyers offering free legal advice to citizens.

She emphasized that this strategy strengthens her administration's efforts to fight against this crime, stating that the population needs a space to seek guidance on how to protect their property.

Brugada highlighted the administration's commitment to combating dispossession by not only prosecuting offenders but also intervening proactively. "Combating dispossession means pursuing without quarter those who commit crimes; but it also means arriving before the crime; intervening before a threat becomes an expulsion; guiding, before an deception ends in the loss of a home; accompanying, before a family has to face alone a legal machinery that is often a bureaucratic labyrinth," she explained.

By the afternoon of the launch, the Legal Counsel, Eréndira Cruzvillegas, reported that 300 families had already received assistance. These families were issued appointment cards to ensure punctual follow-up on their cases. The initiative also involves strategic alliances with various judicial and governmental bodies, including the Superior Court of Justice of CDMX, notaries, and the Attorney General's Office, to provide comprehensive support to the population.

The population requires a space, a place, where they can consult, receive orientation, on what they have to do. Thus we begin with this fight that we are giving against dispossession.
