Brawl after 15th birthday party ends in death in Kantunil, Yucatán; suspect arrested

A celebration in Kantunil, Yucatán, turned deadly when a brawl following a 15th birthday party resulted in the death of an 18-year-old.

Witnesses reported that the confrontation began after the party concluded, with several young individuals, some allegedly under the influence of alcohol, engaging in a fight involving bladed weapons. The situation escalated dramatically when an acquaintance of one of the participants arrived at the scene armed with a shotgun.

According to initial accounts, the individual fired the shotgun, fatally wounding the 18-year-old victim. The other individuals involved in the conflict fled the scene immediately after the shooting. While some reports suggested the victim was the brother of the quinceañera, this has not been officially confirmed.

Law enforcement responded to the scene, and an investigation was launched. On Monday, the State Investigation Police and Municipal Police of Kantunil apprehended Adrián S., a 20-year-old man, who is considered the prime suspect in the fatal shooting. He was arrested while sleeping at a property in the Tzalam neighborhood, and the shotgun believed to be used in the incident was seized. The suspect is now in the custody of the State Attorney General's Office.
