Brussels Firefighter Strike Continues Amid Failed Talks

A strike by Brussels firefighters is ongoing, with no agreement reached between the unions and the regional government. The Brussels government's cabinet confirmed to Belga news agency that talks had failed to produce a resolution, and further negotiations are set for Wednesday morning. This marks the fourth consecutive day of work stoppage for the Brussels fire department. Union representatives expressed dissatisfaction with the government's proposal, describing it as "take it or leave it" with no room for negotiation. The core demands of the unions center on increased resources for both personnel and equipment. "There is simply too low staffing," said Patrick Giebens of ACOD to Belga. He explained that low staffing often forces fire stations to call for assistance from colleagues, leading to longer response times. Additionally, he noted a shortage at the emergency call center, emphasizing that "every second counts" in firefighting.
