Brussels Mobility: Major Construction Project at Quatre-Bras to Last Until 2028

Brussels mobility is set for a major overhaul as Flemish authorities launch a significant infrastructure project at the Quatre-Bras intersection. The initiative focuses on enhancing soft mobility by constructing a new cycling path designed to connect the busy Ring road with the E40 highway.

This ambitious plan aims to create a seamless link between several existing "cyclostrades" (cycle highways) originating from Brussels, including routes to Leuven, Wezembeek-Oppem, and Tervuren. To facilitate this connection, three new cycle bridges will be built over Avenue de Wezembeek, Avenue Oscar De Burbure, and Rue Alphonse Lenaerts, respectively.

The first phase of the project commenced on August 3, with initial work on Chaussée de Malines between Quatre-Bras and Avenue des Fougères. This involves creating a separate cycle path, leading to traffic restrictions on Chaussée de Malines in the direction of the Ring until mid-October. Authorities assure that the Quatre-Bras intersection itself will remain accessible throughout the construction period.

The broader project, which will extend along the Ring road towards Zaventem, is slated for completion in January 2028. This extensive timeline highlights the scale of the undertaking, which promises to significantly improve cycling infrastructure in the region.
