Budapest invests 7 billion forints in lower embankment renovation

Budapest is set to revitalize a significant stretch of its lower Pest embankment, including the Jane Haining embankment, with a substantial seven-billion-forint investment. The project aims to transform the riverside area into a more accessible and community-focused space.

As part of the new traffic management plan, the section between the Erzsébet Bridge and Margit Bridge will operate under a flexible system. Starting in the afternoons, specifically after 5 PM on weekdays, the embankment will be open to pedestrians and cyclists. This change allows for greater public use of the Danube's edge during the evenings, while maintaining vehicle access during daytime hours.

However, the full realization of the embankment's renewal hinges on the successful acquisition of additional financial resources. The Budapest Transport Company (BKK) indicated that the commencement of further renovation phases is contingent upon securing these necessary funds. The current plan, which includes weekend and holiday access until October 25, aims to balance vehicular traffic needs with increased public enjoyment of the waterfront.
