Buenos Aires Challenger set to feature Díaz Acosta, Comesaña and first invitee Coria

Facundo Díaz Acosta and Francisco Comesaña will headline the YPF Buenos Aires Challenger, but Federico Coria has also secured a place that carries particular meaning for the home crowd. The Rosario native received the tournament’s first invitation.

The event will take place at Palermo’s Racket Club from September 20 to 27. Díaz Acosta, ranked 82nd in the world, is the top seed after winning the Argentina Open in 2024 without dropping a set. He has also collected five Challenger titles on clay this season, in Tigre, São Leopoldo, Francavilla al Mare, Milan and San Marino.

The 25-year-old left-hander returned to the top 100 after recovering from a serious injury. He will play the tournament for the fourth time and seek to improve on his 2023 semifinal appearance.

Comesaña, ranked 123rd, is the second seed and already knows how to win in Palermo. He defeated Federico Coria in the 2024 final and has seven clay-court titles at Challenger level. A strong run would give him the chance to become the first player to win the Racket Club trophy twice.

The field also includes Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien, Spain’s Pedro Martínez, Bolivia’s Juan Carlos Prado Angelo and Peru’s Gonzalo Bueno. Thirteen Argentines feature in the main draw, including Alex Barrena, last year’s finalist, and Coria, who has twice reached the final. Coria played consecutive finals against Mariano Navone in 2023 and Comesaña in 2024. DSports will begin broadcasting the tournament on September 25, when the quarterfinals are scheduled, while main-draw tickets are available through Ticketek from 16,000 pesos.
