Buenos Aires Faces Week of Rain and Wind, Temperatures to Drop

The Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) is bracing for a week of unsettled weather, marked by persistent rain and gusty winds. The forecast indicates six consecutive days of precipitation, with winds potentially reaching 50 km/h, followed by a noticeable drop in temperatures. This shift is attributed to a high-pressure system moving through the region, disrupting the calmer conditions experienced earlier in the week.

Starting Tuesday, winds shifted from the south to bring increased moisture, leading to rising cloud cover. Wednesday is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high of only 12°C and a low of 8°C, featuring a high probability of rain, particularly in the afternoon. Strong gusts of wind are also anticipated. Thursday is forecast to continue with similar conditions, with rain expected mainly in the afternoon and evening.

The instability is set to persist through the weekend. While a slight warming trend might offer a brief respite on Friday, with temperatures reaching 14°C, rain will remain a dominant feature. Saturday and Sunday are expected to see maximum temperatures climb to 17°C, influenced by easterly winds that will sustain the precipitation throughout both days.

The extended forecast suggests that the public holiday on Monday, August 17, will also experience significant rainfall, with highs around 15°C, though some temporary clear spells are possible. However, this relief will be short-lived, as a sharp temperature decline is predicted for Tuesday, with lows returning to 8°C and highs not exceeding 14°C, accompanied by continued rain. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued recommendations for dealing with the heavy rainfall.
