Buenos Aires job fair connects 1,400 people with employers via invitation

A unique job fair, the Expo Empleo Barrial, took place in Buenos Aires' Almagro neighborhood, offering a targeted approach to connecting job seekers with employers. Organized by the Subsecretaría de Trabajo y Empleo of the City Government, the event saw 1,400 individuals seeking employment meet with 20 companies offering over 400 active job openings.

Unlike traditional mass hiring events, this expo operated on an invitation-only basis. Interested individuals applied online, submitting their work histories and preferred sectors. The City Government then cross-referenced these applications with available vacancies and company needs, extending invitations only to those who met the required conditions. Organizers noted that the exact location was kept confidential from those not invited, ensuring a more focused interaction.

The job opportunities spanned various sectors, including services, health, commerce, logistics, customer service, security, hospitality, and administration. A significant focus was placed on employing individuals over 45 years old, a demographic that often faces greater challenges in re-entering the labor market. The City Government stated that more than half of the available positions were designated for this age group, underscoring a commitment to supporting older workers.

Participants, like 55-year-old Juan, emphasized the importance of tailoring resumes to specific roles. He shared his strategy of preparing different versions of his CV to highlight relevant experience for each potential employer, advising against generic applications. The event aimed to provide a more efficient and effective platform for both job seekers and companies, fostering direct connections based on specific needs and qualifications.
