Building collapses in Delhi’s Satya Niketan, several feared trapped

A building collapse near Satya Niketan in southwest Delhi left several people feared trapped under debris on Sunday afternoon, prompting a large emergency response. Two people had been rescued by the time of the report, but officials had not established how many others remained beneath the rubble.

The Delhi Fire Services received an alert at about 1:30 p.m. A PCR call to the South Campus police station came around four minutes later, reporting the collapse near Nanakpura Gurdwara. Eight fire tenders reached the site, alongside local police, the fire brigade, CAT ambulance services and other emergency teams.

Deeply concerned by the building collapse incident at Satya Niketan, RK Puram. Teams from DDMA, NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence are carrying out rescue operations on a war footing. The adjacent building has been vacated as a precautionary measure. Every possible effort is being made to safely rescue those trapped and provide immediate assistance to the affected families.

A National Disaster Response Force team also arrived as rescue personnel worked to evacuate those trapped and provide relief. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the adjacent building had been vacated as a precaution. She said teams from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, CATS and Civil Defence were conducting rescue operations.

Gupta said the situation was being closely monitored and that authorities were working together to rescue those trapped and assist affected families. The collapse also recalled a similar incident in Satya Niketan in April 2022, when two labourers died and four others were injured after an under-construction four-storey building collapsed. Six workers were rescued after an operation lasting more than three hours. The then South Delhi Municipal Corporation said that building had been flagged over alleged illegal structural alterations before the collapse.
