Bulgaria a 'Phenomenon' in Balkan Fentanyl Distribution, Analyst Says

Bulgaria presents a unique situation in the Balkans concerning the distribution of fentanyl, according to analyst Tihomir Bezlov. He noted that street-level fentanyl typically contains a low concentration of the active substance, usually between 2% and 3%. This suggests that much of the drug circulating is likely intended for domestic consumption rather than large-scale international trafficking.

Bezlov explained that when fentanyl begins to appear more widely in the market, the number of seizures naturally increases. This correlation indicates that the drug's presence is becoming more significant within the country. The expert's comments highlight the evolving challenges law enforcement faces in combating the spread of synthetic opioids.
