Bulgaria Claims Drone Carried Explosives; Ukraine Denies Intentional Attack

Ukraine has denied intentionally targeting Bulgaria after a drone carrying explosives detonated near the border with Romania, close to a strategic gas pipeline connecting Turkey and Ukraine. The incident occurred near the Kardam checkpoint in northeastern Bulgaria, approximately one kilometer from a compression station of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline.

Bulgaria's Ministry of Defense stated that the drone was of a model "widely used by the Ukrainian military." In response, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister summoned the Ukrainian ambassador for a meeting. However, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Georgiy Tykhyi, asserted that "we can confirm that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not intentionally direct any equipment towards Bulgaria." Ukraine attributed the incident to Russia's ongoing invasion.

No casualties were reported from the explosion. Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev noted that the drone carried a "considerable amount" of explosives. Following an analysis of the wreckage, Bulgaria's Ministry of Defense indicated that "there are currently no signs that this was an intentional act."
