Bullrich on City Mayoral Bid: "I Have Tremendous Faith in Myself"

Senator Patricia Bullrich has signaled strong interest in running for mayor of Buenos Aires, asserting her readiness for the role. "It's not impossible that I will run," she stated, adding, "I have tremendous faith in myself." Bullrich believes her extensive experience in managing national security makes her well-suited for the city's governance, arguing that Buenos Aires is less complex than leading a country.

Bullrich also weighed in on national political dynamics, particularly the relationship between Vice President Victoria Villarruel and President Javier Milei. She suggested that Villarruel, whom she described as a "typical conservative" and "very far from the ideas we champion," is pursuing a different political project. Bullrich noted that Villarruel and Milei's differences became apparent after they both entered the Casa Rosada, implying Villarruel might be "building something" independently.

Reflecting on the current administration in Buenos Aires, led by Mayor Jorge Macri, Bullrich acknowledged some initial actions focused on order, such as clearing protests. However, she indicated a belief that the city requires more profound transformation. "The city needs to be changed very deeply," Bullrich asserted, pointing to an oversized bureaucracy and the need to reduce taxes like "ingresos brutos" (gross income tax).

Her vision for the city involves empowering the private sector and reducing government oversight. "Take the foot off the neck of businesses," she urged, advocating for a more business-friendly environment. Bullrich's comments suggest a potential shift in the city's political landscape, with her positioning herself as a strong contender for its leadership.
