Bumiputera Equity Ownership Trails Target, UiTM Convention Discusses Status

Bumiputera equity ownership in Malaysia currently stands at 15%, significantly short of the overall target of 30%. This statistic highlights a persistent gap in economic participation for the Bumiputera community.

Professor Dr. Mohd. Sazili Shahibi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), discussed this issue during a recent Equity Convention. He noted that much of the existing Bumiputera-owned property, such as shophouses, is located in suburban areas, with a particular concentration along the East Coast.

The convention aimed to delve into the current state of equity ownership among Bumiputera entrepreneurs, seeking to understand the challenges and identify potential strategies to bridge the existing economic divide. The discussion underscored the need for targeted initiatives to boost Bumiputera involvement in business and asset ownership.
