Bundesliga: Augsburg storm back from 1-0 down to seize top spot in Frankfurt

Adi Hütter’s homecoming as Eintracht Frankfurt coach turned sour as Augsburg scored four times after the break to win 4-1 and take the Bundesliga lead.

Frankfurt made the perfect start in front of 59,100 spectators. Jonathan Burkardt headed in Younes Ebnoutalib’s cross in the sixth minute, and the hosts dominated the first half. Can Uzun went close, while Finn Dahmen denied Raphael Onyedika and Elias Baum. Ebnoutalib also missed two chances to extend the lead before halftime.

Augsburg changed the match immediately after the interval. Arijon Ibrahimovic equalized in the 46th minute, and Robin Fellhauer put the visitors ahead one minute later after a serious error by Frankfurt goalkeeper Noah Atubolu. Alexis Claude-Maurice added a third in the 65th minute, before Fabian Rieder completed the comeback in the 89th.

The result gave Augsburg six points from their opening two matches and a perfect start to their season. Frankfurt, who opened their campaign with a 3-3 draw at Union Berlin, remain on one point in the lower half of the table. Hütter had looked forward to returning to his former “living room” after five years, but Augsburg’s efficiency spoiled the occasion.
