Eisbären Berlin suffer heavy Champions Hockey League defeat to Davos

Eisbären Berlin's new head coach Éric Dubois suffered another heavy defeat as the German champions lost 8-2 to HC Davos in the Champions Hockey League.

The loss came three days after Berlin opened its campaign with a 6-2 defeat at Genève-Servette HC. Leonhard Pföderl scored both of the Eisbären's goals in Davos, but the visitors struggled from the start against the Swiss side's fast attacking play.

Enzo Corvi opened the scoring in the fourth minute before Valentin Nussbaumer and Brendan Lemieux made it 3-0 by the 12th minute. Davos then took advantage of a series of penalties after the first intermission. Adam Tambellini scored on the power play in the 24th minute, and Simon Ryfors added another goal a minute later while two Berlin players sat in the penalty box.

Pföderl pulled one back with a power-play goal in the 36th minute, but Calle Andersson restored Davos's four-goal advantage 12 seconds before the end of the period. Berlin replaced goaltender Jonas Neffin with Jack LaFontaine for the final period. Pföderl scored again on the power play in the 44th minute, before Guus van der Kaaij and Nico Gross completed Davos's rout. The game drew 4,333 spectators at the Davos Arena.
