Bundesliga, Matchday 2: Mainz Rout Hamburg 5-0

Mainz 05 turned Hamburger SV’s first home game of the Bundesliga season into a 5-0 defeat, with the hosts failing to register a single shot in the opening half.

Sheraldo Becker opened the scoring in the 19th minute after Kaishu Sano won the ball following a misplaced pass by Hamburg captain Nicolai Remberg. Sano sent Becker through, and the Mainz forward finished alone against goalkeeper Daniel Heuer-Fernandes.

Becker then sprinted down the right in the 41st minute and set up Phillipp Mwene, who only had to put a foot to the ball near the goal. The visitors remained in control for much of the match.

Hamburg made three changes at halftime, bringing on Shafiq Nandja, Patson Daka and Fábio Vieira for Jordan Torunarigha, Martin Adeline and Bilal Nadir. Mainz nevertheless extended its lead in the 48th minute, when Phillip Tietz finished a move created by Becker.

The hosts managed some shots after the break, but Mainz continued to control the game. Tietz scored again in the 83rd minute, and former Hamburg player Ransford Königsdörffer completed the score in the first minute of stoppage time.
