Bureaucracy ends: 25 documents abolished – Transactions with the state with one sworn statement

Greece is significantly reducing bureaucracy by eliminating 25 common documents, replacing them with a single sworn statement. This reform, driven by Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, aims to create a more citizen-friendly and flexible state. The initiative is part of the coordination for the National Registry of Administrative Procedures "MITOS."

The core of the new framework replaces 25 frequently required documents with one simple sworn statement. Official data from "MITOS" indicates this change directly simplifies 1,007 administrative procedures out of a total of 2,500 that require documentation. This simplification affects 40% of the registry's procedures, saving citizens and businesses an estimated 42.5 million documents annually.

The reform has a horizontal impact, covering 32 public sector bodies. Specifically, 622 procedures concerning citizens and 385 concerning businesses will be simplified. Under the new system, individuals and companies will no longer need to submit documents that the state already possesses in its databases. Examples include criminal records, educational certificates, tax and social security clearance, and proof of residence.

The law for a more citizen-friendly state simplifies 40% of the procedures recorded on the electronic platform MITOS, concerning state-citizen relations. Around 1,000 of the approximately 2,500 procedures recorded there are being simplified. Citizens will now be able to be exempted from searching for certificates, which the state holds, with a single sworn statement."
