Bus blast injures 14 in Damascus countryside; ministry corrects death toll

A small bus exploded in the Damascus countryside, injuring 14 people, three of them seriously, Syria's Health Ministry announced Friday. The ministry had initially reported two deaths from the blast the previous day, but later corrected the information.

In a statement Friday, the ministry clarified that the reported fatalities were a mistake. The error stemmed from the discovery of three severed human limbs among the wreckage. Further investigation revealed these limbs belonged to living individuals undergoing surgery.

Security officials stated the explosion in the city of Jaramana was caused by an explosive device planted inside the minibus. The attack was claimed by an unknown entity calling itself the "Supporters of the Prophet's Platform." Syrian authorities have not announced any arrests or findings from the ongoing investigation.

Jaramana, home to a large Druze population, has previously seen tensions between some local residents and pro-government militias. This attack is the latest in a series of security challenges facing the country.
