Bus passengers record tense moments after New America bus shot at in San Juan de Miraflores

Tension gripped a Nueva América bus in San Juan de Miraflores, Lima, on Wednesday night when two armed assailants opened fire on the vehicle. The attack occurred despite the bus company reportedly paying extortion fees to criminal organizations operating in the Lima Sur region. A passenger captured the frightening moments inside the bus, showing people ducking to the floor as bullets struck the windshield near them. The incident, which happened around 8:35 p.m. at the El Hueco stop, involved at least four shots aimed at the driver's area, according to a source linked to the company.

This is not the first time Nueva América has been targeted. The company has faced at least three attacks between 2024 and 2025. In a particularly brutal incident on September 8, 2025, a driver was killed by a fake passenger, leading the company to temporarily suspend services. The latest attack, while causing significant alarm, did not result in any injuries.

The bus involved in the incident has been taken to the Pamplona I police station as investigations continue to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The ongoing violence highlights the severe challenges faced by public transport companies in Lima due to organized crime and extortion.
