Busan Heatwave Exacerbated by Power Outage Affecting Nearly 1,000 Households; Crow Blamed

A heatwave gripping Busan caused a significant power outage on August 8th, leaving nearly a thousand households without electricity. The disruption affected areas in Buk-gu and Sasang-gu, impacting residents and businesses during a period of intense heat.

According to Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Busan-Ulsan Headquarters, the power supply was cut off around 4:30 PM to 986 units, which include homes, shops, and apartments. A single apartment complex can count as one unit. The outage lasted for approximately four hours in total.

KEPCO deployed an emergency recovery team, restoring power to 904 units within about an hour. The remaining 82 units had their electricity supply fully restored by 8:25 PM. The cause of the widespread outage was attributed to a crow that came into contact with the power lines on a utility pole.

Busan has been under a heatwave advisory since July 18th, with the day's high temperature reaching 34.7 degrees Celsius. The power failure added to the discomfort of residents already struggling with the extreme heat.
