Wind causes power outage in Dangjin; five townships affected

A powerful gust of wind caused a widespread power outage in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea, on Saturday afternoon, leaving residents facing significant disruptions.

The outage, which began around 4:38 p.m. in the Munyeui Hall area of Eumnae-dong, quickly spread, affecting five townships and causing communication lines to go down. Dangjin City issued a public safety alert at 5:05 p.m., informing residents of the situation and stating that Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) had deployed four recovery teams to expedite repairs.

As of 7 p.m., power had been restored to Eumnae-dong, but the townships of Hapdeok, Ugang, Sunseong, Gode, and Songak remained without electricity and communication services. The exact number of affected households has not yet been confirmed.

A city official advised residents to exercise caution, particularly regarding the use of elevators and other electronic devices, and noted that full restoration would likely take some time. The incident highlights the vulnerability of local infrastructure to severe weather events.
