Busila to head Lithuanian Seimas Health Affairs Committee

The Lithuanian parliament's Health Affairs Committee will now be led by A. Busila, following a vote by committee members. Busila, a representative of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), secured the position with six votes in favor, while conservative member Jurgita Sejonienė abstained. He previously served as the committee's deputy chairman.

Busila highlighted his extensive experience in the health sector, stating, "Life has unfolded in such a way that for 15 years I led the Public Health Bureau of Panevėžys District Municipality." This background positions him to guide the committee's work.

His predecessor, Lina Šukytė-Korsakė, who was delegated by the "Aušrininkai" faction before their removal from the coalition, previously chaired the committee. The new coalition agreement outlines a redistribution of leadership roles across various parliamentary committees. Social Democrats will continue to head committees such as Future, Environment, Budget and Finance, European Affairs, Culture, National Security and Defence, Education, Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, and Law and Order.

Under the new agreement, the "Democrats" party, invited into the coalition, will take over the chairmanships of three committees currently led by "Aušrininkai" members: Economy and Innovation, Energy and Sustainable Development, and Social Affairs and Labour. The Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union will retain leadership of the Rural Affairs and State Governance and Local Authorities committees.
