Businessman gets 105 years, 70 lashes for raping daughter

A businessman in Tawau has been sentenced to 105 years in prison and 70 lashes for raping his adult daughter. Judge Ahmad Faizadh Yahaya handed down the sentence after the 53-year-old pleaded guilty to seven charges.

The court ordered the businessman to serve 15 years in prison and receive 10 lashes for each charge. The prison sentences will run consecutively, while the total number of lashes is capped at 24, adhering to legal provisions. He will also undergo counseling during his sentence and be supervised by police for three years after his release.

The man was accused of raping his 25-year-old daughter multiple times in hotels between December 2025 and March 2026. The prosecution argued that the victim felt unable to resist due to her father's constant reminders of his financial support for her education and family expenses. He allegedly monitored her work schedule to plan his assaults.

During his plea, the accused expressed shame and regret, asking for a reduced sentence to apologize to his family. "I am truly repentant and very sorry. I apologize to everyone. Hopefully, I am the last person to do this," he stated. However, the prosecution pushed for the maximum penalty, citing the severity and premeditated nature of the crimes, including directing the victim to book hotel rooms.

This sentencing follows a previous one on April 8, where the Lahad Datu Sessions Court imposed a 165-year prison sentence and 110 lashes for 11 charges of raping two daughters, aged 25 and 22, between 2016 and 2026.
