Buzău enters festival mode: Jugglers, fire, and spectacular characters at BIAF 2026 opening

Buzău has embraced a festive atmosphere with the opening of the Buzău International Arts Festival 2026, transforming Crâng Park into an open-air stage. The inaugural evening drew thousands of spectators who enjoyed a vibrant display of street art, including stilt walkers, fire juggling, and a parade of fantastical characters. A stilt walker in a colorful costume mingled with the crowd, while an acrobat performed with flaming torches near the obelisk. The night concluded with a parade of costumed characters winding through the park's pathways, accompanied by enthusiastic children and adults. Entry to the opening events was free, filling the central area of Crâng Park.

The festival continues throughout the weekend with more street art performances on Saturday, August 15, followed by a concert by Alexandra Căpitănescu & Band. Sunday, August 16, shifts the focus to the "I.C. Brătianu" Museum Center, hosting concerts by Umbra, Toulouse Lautrec, and Implant pentru Refuz, all with free admission.

Now in its sixth edition, the Buzău International Arts Festival will run until September 11, offering a diverse program of over 100 events. These include film screenings, independent theater, music performances, exhibitions, photography displays, literary events, workshops, and children's activities. Notable guests for this edition include Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio, who is expected on August 27, Romanian actor George Mihăiță as the festival's guest of honor, and film critic Irina Margareta Nistor.
