Ca Mau boosts West Sea dyke project funding to nearly $36 million

Ca Mau province in Vietnam has raised the investment for its West Sea dyke and coastal erosion control project to approximately 960 billion Vietnamese dong (36.05 million EUR). The provincial People's Committee approved the revised investment plan on August 4th.

The project aims to build a 19-kilometer dyke and 11 kilometers of embankment to protect against coastal erosion in vulnerable areas. The total investment has increased from 849.275 billion dong (31.93 million EUR) to 959.056 billion dong (36.05 million EUR).

While French Development Agency (AFD) ODA funding remains at 19.17 million EUR and non-refundable aid at 3.76 million EUR, the provincial counterpart funds have significantly increased from 239.27 billion dong to 349.047 billion dong to cover the additional costs. The provincial finance department is tasked with securing and allocating the necessary funds.

Beyond infrastructure, the project includes environmental and social components. It plans to plant 100 hectares of mangroves, establish 45 farmer groups, and create livelihood models for over 1,000 households. The project, managed by the provincial Construction Project Management Board, is slated for completion between 2024 and 2028, with over 322 billion dong already disbursed as of June.
