Cà Mau: Drinking at Home, 1 Dead, 1 Comatose Suspected of Alcohol Poisoning

A suspected case of alcohol poisoning has led to one death and left another person in critical condition in Cà Mau province, Vietnam. Two patients are currently receiving intensive care at the Cà Mau Provincial General Hospital following a drinking session at a private residence.

The hospitalized individuals exhibited symptoms consistent with alcohol poisoning, including dizziness, headaches, and blurred vision. One 57-year-old man, identified as Mr. P., is in a coma, on a ventilator, and undergoing dialysis in the intensive care unit. Another patient, Mr. N., aged 49, has regained consciousness but remains under close observation and treatment.

A third man, Mr. H., aged 45, initially sought medical attention but was later taken home by his family, where he passed away on May 25. The group reportedly consumed alcohol purchased from a local vendor during a gathering that spanned two periods on May 22.

Local authorities, including the Provincial Department of Food Safety and Hygiene, are actively investigating the incident. They are tracing the source of the suspectedly tainted alcohol and collecting samples for laboratory testing to determine the exact cause of the poisoning.
