Caacupé 2026: Organizers begin planning to receive thousands of pilgrims

With December in sight, Caacupé has begun preparing for one of Paraguay’s largest religious mobilizations. Church leaders and public institutions held the first coordination meeting for the Caacupé 2026 operation on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Caacupé Bishopric.

The meeting was convened by Ricardo Valenzuela, bishop of the Diocese of Caacupé, and Rubén Ojeda, rector of the Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of the Miracles of Caacupé. Their aim is to anticipate the needs of the thousands of pilgrims who will travel to the city during the central days of the celebration.

Representatives of the Cordillera Governor’s Office, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police joined the Church delegation. Each institution presented initial proposals and outlined its willingness to work together. Security, assistance and organization will form the main pillars of an operation that must manage the large crowds traditionally drawn to Caacupé to fulfill promises and give thanks to the Virgin.

The organizers want the operation to do more than respond to problems during the festivities. They intend to anticipate pilgrims’ needs and create suitable conditions for their arrival, stay and return. Further institutional meetings were proposed for Oct. 1 and Oct. 30 at 9 a.m., although the venue will be confirmed later. Those sessions are expected to define strategies, responsibilities and specific actions among the agencies involved.
