CAF delegation inspects La Guaira port for earthquake damage assessment

A technical delegation from the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) visited Venezuela's Port of La Guaira to assess the damage caused by severe earthquakes on June 24. The inspection focused on the operational infrastructure, aiming to understand the impact on the port's logistics chain and commercial productivity.

Led by Ángel Cárdenas Sosa, CAF's Infrastructure for Development manager, the delegation met with top officials from Bolivariana de Puertos (Bolipuertos), including its president Germán Gómez Lárez and general manager Dany Salazar. Their tour of the maritime complex was crucial for diagnosing the extent of the damage and planning recovery efforts.

The CAF delegation evaluated potential avenues for financial and institutional cooperation to support the port's reconstruction. These efforts will be channeled through the CAF-backed Fund for the Recovery and Reconstruction of Venezuela. This financial tool is designed to coordinate contributions from various sources, including governments, private corporations, international organizations, and foundations, all focused on aiding the country's contingency response.

The fund operates with transparency, accountability, and continuous monitoring to ensure resources are directed toward agreed-upon reconstruction priorities between CAF and Venezuelan authorities. This initiative underscores a commitment to rebuilding critical infrastructure and restoring commercial activity in the affected region.
