Cagliari footballer Yael Trepy wakes from coma with no neurological deficits

Cagliari footballer Yael Trepy has emerged from an induced coma, showing full consciousness and no neurological deficits, according to a hospital bulletin released by the club. The 20-year-old French forward had been hospitalized in Sardinia after nearly drowning in a swimming pool.

Doctors progressively reduced the player's sedation and ventilatory support, leading to his extubation. Trepy, who is in the intensive care unit of the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari, is now conscious and receptive. His respiratory condition is stable, and he shows no apparent neurological damage.

Despite his recovery, Trepy will remain in intensive care due to recent extubation and lung issues stemming from the inhalation syndrome. He will continue to be closely monitored. The club expressed its support with a message: "You are strong, Yael. We will see you soon."

The incident occurred while Trepy was on vacation in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. The circumstances leading to him ending up in the deep end of a pool and being unable to stay afloat are still under investigation. Emergency services rescued him and intubated him at the scene. A chest scan revealed significant fluid accumulation in his lungs, prompting the medically induced coma.
