Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı's Burhaniye home to become museum

The historic home of renowned Turkish poet Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı in Burhaniye is undergoing restoration by the local municipality. The two-story, 80-square-meter residence, located in the Memiş Mahallesi Haşimağa Caddesi, holds significant literary heritage. The restoration meticulously preserves the building's original structure.

Tarancı, a celebrated figure in Turkish literature, is known to have drawn inspiration from his days in Burhaniye for his poem "Haydi Abbas, Vakit Tamam," considered a masterpiece of Turkish poetry. The house is where he penned this significant work.

Once restoration is complete, the house will open as a museum. It will feature personal effects and memorabilia belonging to Tarancı, which will be brought from his hometown of Diyarbakır. This initiative aims to make the house a key destination for both literature enthusiasts and visitors interested in exploring the historical and cultural legacy of Burhaniye.

Burhaniye Mayor Ali Kemal Deveciler emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage. "It is very valuable for us to keep alive the traces left by an important figure of Turkish literature like Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı in Burhaniye," he stated. "We will meticulously restore this special building and pass it on to future generations. I believe the house, which will be opened as a museum, will add significant value to the cultural life of our Burhaniye."
