California Lifeguard's Dramatic Rescue of Child Swept by Waves

Dramatic footage shows a California lifeguard saving a young boy from being swept out to sea by powerful waves in Santa Cruz on July 25. The intense, two-minute rescue unfolded as the child struggled against the strong surf.

The lifeguard is seen reaching the boy and pulling him back towards the shore. He was assisted by a colleague and several onlookers who helped bring the child safely onto the sand, away from the dangerous waves. The rescue concluded under the applause of beachgoers.

This incident occurred amid a period of significant swells along the coast. Officials reported that these strong waves contributed to at least 25 rescues in the county. The National Weather Service attributed the large surf to tropical cyclones far out in the Eastern Pacific, warning of an increased risk of rogue waves and dangerous rip currents. The waves were reported to be reaching heights of up to 3 meters.
