Call for clear pollution enforcement roles

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has acknowledged that certain provisions within the new Bill might overlap with established environmental legislation. This potential overlap could lead to confusion and ambiguity regarding which ministry or agency has the ultimate authority and responsibility for enforcement actions.

Submissions to the Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights highlight the need for a clear delineation of duties to ensure effective environmental protection and public health safeguards. The review aims to resolve these ambiguities and establish a streamlined approach to managing pollution incidents.
