Cameroon prepares for major IDB events to boost partnership

Cameroon and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) are set to enhance their partnership through two significant events scheduled for September 2026. The Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, met with an IDB delegation on August 11, 2026, to discuss the organization of these key meetings.

The first event, the IDB Group Day, aims to introduce the bank's comprehensive range of products and services to Cameroonian public and private sector actors. This initiative seeks to increase the IDB's visibility and improve access to its financing instruments, guarantees, and support for the private sector within Cameroon's economy.

Following this, the Country Engagement Framework Forum will take place. This more strategic meeting is designed to define the IDB's intervention priorities in Cameroon for the upcoming three years. The outcomes will establish a reference document that aligns the bank's financing with national priorities, including infrastructure, agriculture, health, energy, and financial inclusion.

Yaoundé views these initiatives as a dual opportunity: to mobilize more concessional resources for the National Development Plan and to diversify funding sources beyond traditional donors by leveraging Islamic finance. The IDB is already active in Cameroon's agriculture, road infrastructure, and health sectors, and both parties aim to give greater scope and coherence to their cooperation through this new framework.
