Cần Giuộc becomes a commune, easing Ho Chi Minh City's population pressure with new urban areas and direct connecting roads

Cần Giuộc commune, situated in the southeastern part of Tây Ninh province, is undergoing a significant transformation into a burgeoning urban hub. Its strategic location, bordering Hưng Long and Hiệp Phước communes in Ho Chi Minh City, positions it as a crucial link in the southern development corridor. This proximity allows Cần Giuộc to play a vital role in connecting Ho Chi Minh City's core with its vital port systems and waterways along the Soài Rạp River.

The commune's development is intrinsically tied to the broader regional growth strategy. As outlined in Tây Ninh province's planning for 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050, Cần Giuộc is designated as a center for a radiating urban area that connects to the Ho Chi Minh City region. The vision is to foster an ecological urban development model, emphasizing a high quality of life and meeting the housing needs of the workforce in the area's industrial and logistics centers.

To realize this vision, the Tây Ninh Provincial People's Committee has approved the planning for Cần Giuộc's urban development. This plan encompasses the commune itself and surrounding areas like Mỹ Lộc, Phước Lý, Phước Vĩnh Tây, and Tân Tập, covering a total area of approximately 215.10 square kilometers. Cần Giuộc commune alone spans 60.4 square kilometers and currently has a population of 79,309. The local economy has seen a strong shift towards industry and construction, which now drives 93.69% of its economic activity.

With its prime location, Cần Giuộc has attracted substantial investment in transportation and urban infrastructure connecting it to Ho Chi Minh City. Key routes such as National Highway 50, Hương Lộ 11, and provincial roads ĐT.826C and ĐT.826E have been upgraded. Furthermore, significant land clearance is in progress for projects like the Ring Road 4 of Ho Chi Minh City and ĐT.827E, which will provide a crucial link between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. Modern urban developments, including the 267-hectare T&T City Millennia, are already established, with plans for further large-scale urban projects underway, such as the 97-hectare Cần Giuộc town urban area and the nearly 1,100-hectare Vinhomes Phước Vĩnh Tây on Ring Road 4.
