Canada men's soccer team to host Chile, Peru in homecoming friendlies

Canada's men's national soccer team is set to celebrate their historic World Cup achievement with two home friendly matches later this year. Head coach Jesse Marsch anticipates a "hero's welcome" as the team returns to Canadian soil to play against Chile and Peru.

The Canadian Soccer Association announced that the team will host Chile in Toronto on September 26. Following this, they will travel to Montreal to face Peru on October 3. These matches mark Canada's first home games since their groundbreaking performance at the World Cup, where they secured their first-ever win at the men's tournament, a dominant 6-0 victory over Qatar, and advanced to the knockout stage for the first time.

"The momentum we’ve created for this sport in the country over the past few months has been incredible," Marsch stated. "We couldn’t have done it without our fans, and these matches are a chance to say thank you and continue to build on what we achieved at the World Cup. We hope to see Canadians celebrate this team with a hero's welcome and show up in numbers this fall."

Canada's World Cup journey included a 1-1 draw against Bosnia, earning their first points in the tournament. Their impressive 6-0 win against Qatar was followed by a 2-1 loss to Switzerland, which still allowed them to finish second in Group B and secure a knockout-round berth. They defeated South Africa 1-0 in the round of 32 before their tournament run concluded with a 3-0 loss to Morocco in the round of 16.
