Canada PM Carney says has no confidence in FIFA’s Infantino

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has declared he no longer has confidence in FIFA President Gianni Infantino, joining a chorus of international criticism.

Carney's statement comes after Infantino's plan to open the World Cup to private investment was withdrawn due to widespread opposition. The Canadian leader expressed his disappointment, particularly regarding Infantino's reported failure to consult senior FIFA management on the proposal.

Certainly I don’t have confidence in Mr Infantino, after this point, given what transpired.

"This is not how you run any business, a small business, let alone something that is a global responsibility like football," Carney told reporters in Toronto. He suggested that such a lapse in communication should be "fatal" to Infantino's tenure leading world football's governing body.

Infantino faced mounting pressure, even from within FIFA, over the handling of the plan, which aimed to create a commercial subsidiary called FIFA Forward Enterprise. Calls for his resignation intensified after he abandoned the proposal last Saturday. Infantino held emergency talks in Morocco on Wednesday to address the crisis, seeking to contain the fallout from the controversy.
