Canadian travel to U.S. increases for second straight month: StatCan

Canadian travel to the United States has rebounded for a second consecutive month, with a 9.9 percent year-over-year increase in Canadian resident return trips in May. This follows a prolonged 15-month period of declining travel numbers to the U.S.

Concurrently, U.S. residents are visiting Canada in greater numbers. May saw a 13 percent year-over-year jump in U.S. resident return trips to Canada, marking the fourth consecutive month of growth. Overall arrivals by U.S. residents to Canada increased by 6.9 percent, with notable rises in automobile arrivals and significant growth via cruise ship, ferry, and train.

Overseas travel to Canada also experienced an uptick in May, with a 6.2 percent increase compared to the previous year. Arrivals from Europe and the Americas (excluding the U.S.) were the primary drivers of this growth, helping to offset a decrease in visitors from Asia. The United Kingdom, India, and France were the top three countries of origin for overseas visitors to Canada in May.
