Canal Once recovers facilities after student occupation, dialogue to continue

Public broadcaster Canal Once announced it has peacefully regained control of its facilities after a prolonged occupation by students from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). The occupation, which began on May 21, lasted for more than two months and, according to the station, significantly impacted its normal operations.

Canal Once stated that the students' demands were unrelated to the broadcaster's purview. Throughout the occupation, the station emphasized its commitment to dialogue as the primary means to resolve the situation and recover its premises. The return to normal operations will allow for the gradual resumption of infrastructure reviews, audiovisual preservation, and the continuation of its information, education, scientific, and cultural services, which have been provided for over six decades.

Despite the occupation, Canal Once managed to maintain its broadcasts thanks to the efforts of its staff and the support of various institutions and public media outlets. However, the station acknowledged that this extraordinary operational setup led to limitations.

The broadcaster plans to release the results of a technical evaluation of its facilities, infrastructure, and assets in the coming days. This evaluation will inform the actions needed for recovery and the full restoration of its operations. Importantly, the recovery of the building does not alter the ongoing dialogue with university authorities through established working groups, which will continue to address the students' demands.
