Cancer can mimic ulcers, Aproko Doctor warns following Ogogo’s passing

A Nigerian medical doctor and health educator, known as Aproko Doctor, has cautioned that certain cancers can develop silently and present symptoms easily mistaken for common ailments like ulcers. This clarification comes in response to questions surrounding the recent passing of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo.

The uncomfortable truth is that looking healthy does not always mean that everything is fine inside your body. Some serious illnesses can develop quietly, with symptoms that may look like ordinary problems at first.

Aproko Doctor explained on X that appearing healthy externally does not guarantee internal well-being. He highlighted that some serious illnesses can progress unnoticed, initially displaying symptoms that resemble minor issues. Specifically, he noted that stomach cancer can manifest with symptoms commonly associated with ulcers, emphasizing that ulcers themselves do not transform into cancer.

He strongly advised individuals experiencing recurrent stomach pain against self-medicating with ulcer drugs without identifying the root cause. "This is why that stomach pain that keeps coming back deserves more attention than simply taking the ulcer drug you used last time," the doctor stated. If symptoms persist despite treatment, he urged patients to seek further medical evaluation rather than simply switching medications.

Ulcer. Can ulcer actually be cancer? Not exactly. An ulcer does not simply turn into cancer. But some cancers, particularly cancers of the stomach, can cause symptoms that people commonly describe as ulcer.

Symptoms such as persistent stomach pain, unexplained weight loss, repeated vomiting, loss of appetite, difficulty swallowing, or feeling full very quickly should be thoroughly evaluated by a healthcare professional. However, Aproko Doctor also cautioned against jumping to conclusions, noting that these symptoms do not automatically confirm cancer. He reassured the public that most stomach pain is not cancer-related but stressed the importance of proper diagnosis for persistent issues.

This is why that stomach pain that keeps coming back deserves more attention than simply taking the ulcer drug you used last time. If the symptoms keep returning despite treatment, don’t just keep changing the drug. Go back and investigate what is actually causing them.
