Cape Coast Technical University targets 30,000 students by 2030

Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) is embarking on a transformative journey to establish itself as a leading center for innovation and research in technical education. The university's management has unveiled a series of strategic initiatives designed to enhance its academic offerings and learning environment.

CCTU would introduce 12 postgraduate programmes in engineering.

Central to these plans is the introduction of 12 new postgraduate engineering programs. Furthermore, CCTU will implement a mandatory soft skills program incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) for all students. Graduation will be contingent upon successful completion of this AI-based program, making AI literacy and employability key requirements for all students.

Professor Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye, the Vice-Chancellor, announced that a "smart classroom project" will also be rolled out starting next academic year. This initiative aims to support technology-centered learning and better equip students for the evolving job market. The university is also focused on expanding its student enrollment, with a target of exceeding 30,000 students by 2030, a significant increase from its current population of over 7,000.

Research output is another key focus area. The university reported a 53% increase in research outcomes in its 2025 report compared to the previous year. To further bolster research, CCTU has established an institutional research office and an international conference support scheme to encourage staff to pursue cutting-edge research with international recognition. CCTU is also expanding its community engagement, including skills training for inmates at the Ankaful Prisons through a memorandum of understanding.
