Car Collision Sparks Explosion and Fire in Istanbul’s Maltepe

A violent collision between two cars in Istanbul's Maltepe district early Sunday morning triggered an explosion and a subsequent fire, leaving three individuals injured. The dramatic incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Turgut Özal Boulevard in the Yalı Mahallesi.

The crash involved vehicles driven by Enes E. and Efekan Y. The impact caused one of the cars to veer off course and erupt in flames following what appeared to be an explosion. The force of the collision and explosion turned one of the vehicles into a fireball.

Emergency services, including fire, police, and medical teams, were dispatched immediately. Firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the blaze, while paramedics provided initial treatment to the injured. The three individuals hurt in the crash – the two drivers and a passenger identified as Furkan Ş. – were transported to a hospital for further medical attention. Another passenger, Burak Can A., was also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

The entire sequence of the crash, explosion, and fire was captured on the helmet camera of a nearby motorcyclist. Police have initiated an investigation into the exact cause of the accident, with the video footage expected to be crucial in reconstructing the events leading up to the collision.
