Car Hits Five Pedestrians in Varese; 17-Year-Old Dead, Four Seriously Injured

A tragic accident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on the SS 394 state road in Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca, in the province of Varese, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old girl and serious injuries to four others.

The group of five pedestrians was reportedly hit by a car traveling towards Maccagno. The teenager died at the scene, while the four other victims, aged between 15 and 30, sustained severe injuries. The driver of the vehicle was also injured but is reportedly not in critical condition.

A large-scale rescue operation was launched by the Soreu dei Laghi operations center. Multiple air ambulances were dispatched from Como, Sondrio, and Milan, alongside several ambulances from various emergency organizations, including the Red Cross and Padana Emergenza. A medical car from Asst Varese also responded.

Carabinieri from the Luino company are investigating the circumstances of the incident. The SS 394 was temporarily closed to traffic in the affected section, leading to considerable disruptions.
