Caregivers Accused of Selling Livelihood Support Items in Volta Region

Serious allegations have emerged from Ghana's Volta Region, where caregivers entrusted with supporting persons with disabilities are reportedly exploiting their positions for personal gain. The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) has brought to light a disturbing practice involving the sale of application forms for livelihood support programs provided by local assemblies.

According to the GFD, these vital forms, which are intended to help persons with disabilities access essential resources, are being sold for GHC150. This illicit transaction effectively creates a financial barrier for those who are already vulnerable and in need of assistance. The GFD's revelation points to a systemic issue of exploitation within the support network.

Further compounding the issue, the GFD has revealed that some caregivers are misappropriating funds specifically allocated for the upkeep of persons with disabilities. Instead of using these resources for their intended purpose, they are reportedly investing them in treasury bills. This diversion of funds not only constitutes financial misconduct but also directly impacts the daily well-being and quality of life for the individuals under their care.
