About Daily Graphic

Paper Of Record Government-alignedRead with context

The Daily Graphic was established in 1950 by the British Daily Mirror Group. Ownership transitioned to the Ghanaian government in 1964, and it is now published by Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), which is wholly owned by the Government of Ghana, with the Ministry of Finance registered as the sole shareholder.

As a state-owned newspaper, the Daily Graphic regularly covers the government in a favorable light, detailing and encouraging national unity and government policy. It has faced occasional criticism for perceived bias in its coverage of political events. Despite this, it is the most widely read daily newspaper in Ghana and is considered a paper-of-record. Ghana's press environment is rated as free by Freedom House, and Reporters Without Borders ranked Ghana 39th globally in 2026.
