Carlos Álvarez leaves Levante for Club América: “I gave everything I had”

Carlos Álvarez is leaving Levante after three seasons, carrying with him the memory of the goal that sent the Valencia club back to Spain’s top division.

The midfielder, who joined Levante on Aug. 12, 2023, as a 20-year-old leaving home for the first time, has been transferred to Mexico’s Club América for a fee close to 6 million euros. He had become one of Levante’s most important players in recent years.

His defining moment came on May 25, 2025, when he scored in the 96th minute to confirm Levante’s promotion to La Liga. “That May 25, we tasted glory,” Álvarez recalled, describing the goal as “that magical minute” that helped heal an old wound. He called the promotion “our revenge,” achieved collectively “from the first player to the last fan.”

In a message on Instagram, Álvarez remembered Levante giving professional football to a newly turned 20-year-old who had just left home. “You gave a 20-year-old kid the opportunity to play professional football,” he wrote. He also highlighted the bond he developed with the supporters, teammates and club.

“I’m leaving with a clear conscience. I gave everything I had to return the club to where it belongs. I always worked hard and gave everything,” he said. At Club América, he will begin a new professional challenge focused on continuing to grow “as a footballer and as a person.”
