Carreño takes charge at Nacional, promises wins and good play without starting from scratch

Daniel Carreño has taken the helm at Nacional, declaring that he has no time for a complete overhaul and will instead focus on straightforward tactics to achieve victory. "Nacional must win and play well," Carreño stated during his presentation, emphasizing that the club already possesses a distinct style of play that he intends to uphold. He believes in appealing to simple strategies rather than trying to instill a new philosophy from the ground up.

Carreño expressed his "full happiness" at returning to the club, despite its current sporting difficulties. He acknowledged past opportunities to return that did not materialize, stating he had "that thorn" to come back. "This club has given me a lot as a player, as a coach, and as a person," he added, noting that the "very large crest" and the institution's significance were enough motivation to return, regardless of the team's situation.

The new coach also commented on the team's current state, noting that he found "a group that works well, that strives, that is professional, in which there are no divisions and in which there is concern." Regarding the upcoming Clásico against Peñarol on August 30, Carreño stated that the team's immediate focus must be on the upcoming weekend match against Progreso. Carreño's history with Nacional includes winning the Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cup as a player, and a Uruguayan Championship as a coach in 2002. He previously coached the team in 2007 before departing mid-season.
