Case Filed Over Illegal Transport of Migrants Across Lithuanian Border

Lithuanian authorities have brought charges against a French national accused of orchestrating the illegal transport of 19 foreign nationals across the state border. According to a press release from the prosecutor's office, the incident occurred on July 5th when the accused allegedly loaded the individuals into the cargo area of a minivan in Latvia.

The group consisted of 11 citizens from the Islamic Republic of Iran, 4 from the Republic of Pakistan, 3 from the Republic of Afghanistan, and one individual of undetermined nationality. The accused reportedly intended to transport these foreign nationals to Poland, with the promise of receiving 7,000 euros for his services.

His journey into Lithuania was intercepted by police officers on the Jurbarkas–Šakiai road on the same day. During the pre-trial investigation, the accused admitted to the charges. The prosecutor, overseeing the investigation, has decided to conclude the pre-trial proceedings with a court criminal order. The prosecution is requesting the court to impose a 30,000 euro fine on the French citizen and to confiscate the vehicle, valued at 40,000 euros, as proceeds from the illegal activity. The case has been submitted to the Kaunas Regional Court.
