Cavalier held by Cibao FC in 2026 CONCACAF Caribbean Cup opener

Jamaica's Cavalier FC began their 2026 CONCACAF Caribbean Cup title defense with a goalless draw against Cibao FC of the Dominican Republic. The match, held Wednesday night at Estadio Cibao, saw the defending champions unable to find the back of the net.

Despite Cibao FC controlling 74 percent of the possession, neither team managed to break the deadlock. Cavalier recorded two shots on target, while Cibao managed only one. This result places both teams on one point after the opening round of Group B matches.

Cavalier holds a strong record in the competition, being the only club to reach two finals and holding the record for most tournament victories with 10 wins and 40 goals scored. However, they were unable to add to their tally in this encounter.

Early leaders in Group B are Salcedo FC, who defeated fellow Jamaican club Portmore United 2-1. Mount Pleasant FA, another Jamaican representative, recently secured the CFU Club Shield title. Cibao FC will face Mount Pleasant FA on August 18, while Cavalier will play Salcedo FC on August 20.
