Jamaican sprinters Card, Douglas, and Terrelonge reach 100m semis at World U-20 Championships

Jamaica's medal hopefuls Gary Card, Shanoya Douglas, and Theianna-Lee Terrelonge have all advanced to the semi-finals of the 100m at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Oregon. The trio secured their spots on the opening day of the competition with strong performances in the first round.

Gary Card demonstrated his speed by winning his heat in an impressive 10.07 seconds, comfortably finishing ahead of his competitors. His teammate Dontae Watson, however, did not advance after finishing fifth in his heat.

In the women's 100m, both Shanoya Douglas and Theianna-Lee Terrelonge showcased their talent by winning their respective heats, automatically qualifying them for the next stage. Douglas recorded a dominant time of 11.35 seconds, while Terrelonge also secured an automatic spot.

Adding to Jamaica's success, the mixed 4x400m relay team also qualified for the final. The team, consisting of Jabari Matheson, Shameika McLean, Jordan Rehedul, and Kristen Herbert, won their semi-final heat with a time of 3:21.47. Jabari Matheson expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, emphasizing their focus on executing their race plan to secure a place in the final.

It was a good race. We just need to come out here and just execute and get to the finals. We are the first one to get on the track as the Jamaicans, so we just come out here to set the pace for the rest of the athletes as well, so I’m very happy we won and advanced.
